Stop Rushing!

A 3 - Step Guide to Help Your Tap Students Connect the Rhythms with the Music

Looking for a method to clean up a specific section of a Tap Dance routine that the students just keep rushing, or doesn’t sound “together”?
Getting ready for recital or nationals, and still feeling frustrated and cringing during a particular section of choreography that just isn’t clean?
Kids feeling discouraged or have they given up?
Here’s a 3-step strategy you can use in your next Tap class to get your students to connect their rhythms with the music. ———— As a competition judge, I’ve seen this same musicality problem over and over again - even judges without no background in Tap Dance will deduct points off a routine that “sounds messy”. Every time I hear/see this problem, I give the same suggestion.
And as a Tap Dance teacher with my own recital and competition pieces, I’ve used this approach more times than I can count and it saves so much energy, time and needless frustration.
Tap Dance teachers who have the most success with their routines are mostly likely using some variation of this approach…it’s really no secret at all…
…and if you aren’t yet getting the kind of results you want with your Tap routines, this technique can definitely help!

Use this approach to:
*Boost that Technique score with better musicality
* Make your recital’s Tap pieces stand out and generate more “buzz”
* Feel the victory (and relief!) of seeing your students’ eyes light up when they finally “get it”, and they look around at each other and say “we sound GOOOOOOD!”
The more capable your students feel, the more confident they will feel, and that confidence can spark a stronger LOVE for Tap Dance
…what more can we hope for?
It all starts with a love, understanding, and appreciation of the RHYTHM.
This strategy can help! Check out this video guide and use it in your next Tap class this week!

"I truly admire the way Karida teaches. She is truly amazing. I’ve been watching a lot of teachers lately trying to work on my teaching. Karida is so good, and I learn a lot from her. Also, Karida has experience on the professional stage, behind a judges table and in the classroom. This gives her a perspective most do not have. She knows how to incorporate valuable technique into a successful competition performance."

Molly K., Studio Owner & Tap Dance Teacher

"It is very hard to find a tap teacher, and it is a challenge to keep the kids interested since there is so much detail involved in tap. Karida’s approach in technique, rhythms and the dancers’ individual performance, along with her creativity, brought impressive dances to the stage. Karida’s tap dances were clean, creative and the dancers loved performing them!"

Alexia H.S., Studio Owner, Ballet Teacher & former New York City Ballet Principal

"Karida’s way of teaching tap taught many how to hear sounds and rhythms in music that many could not hear and most couldn’t identify. Her teaching style enabled and encouraged students to reach beyond their own abilities."

Ebonie A., Studio Owner & Tap Dance Teacher
