Radio City Rockette - Pace Univ. Tap Dance Professor - Dorrance Dance
"Karida is one of the most wonderful Tap dancers I know. Her vast education - from NYU to professional training in NYC, to then going to working some of the top jobs in the field - makes Karida an invaluable resource for education, for training, for growth...
Anyone who gets the opportunity to learn from Karida will soar and reach their ultimate potential. "
- Chloé Arnold, Emmy Nominee, Hollywood Choreographer, Founder of the Syncopated Ladies
"As a faculty member at Pace University in our Commercial Dance Program Karida's work with the students was of the highest caliber.
Karida's range is immense. Not only is she still working in the rhythm and concert Tap arena, but she also knows both sides and is versed in theatrical Tap as well. She really represents the best of both 'Tap worlds.'
She is also one of the kindest & funniest people I've met and brings that light of her personality to all her classes."
- Lauren Gaul, Assoc. Director, Pace University Commercial Dance Program
TAP ROUTINES LOOKING A LITTLE BLAND OR AWKWARD?
There you are, standing in the wings at the recital. Or maybe you got to sneak out to the house and see the Tap routine from the front.
You feel a little nervous, as though YOU were about to perform.
And the routine looks...OK.
Maybe even a little awkward.
You're trying to WILL them to stop looking at the floor, to smile, or relax that "T-Rex arm" and get more into the style of arms that you gave them...wishing you could yell it out to them again like you did in class every week! But now, it's a silent scream in your head.
So, despite the excitement you had when you found the song, picked the costume, and came up with the choreo, the routine just didn't come together the way you'd hoped.
But wait! Aren't some of these SAME students performing their HEARTS out in their Contemporary or Hip-Hop routines?! Why don't they do it for Tap? All they give you in Tap is mediocre energy and a flat smile!
And there you are...after a year's worth of hard work, feeling "ok" about what they're showing. Or you honestly feel kinda discouraged because even though "it's not about you", what they’re presenting on stage doesn’t reflect the hard work you’ve been doing as their Teacher all year!
******
⬇️ WHICH THOUGHT STARTS TO LOOP IN YOUR HEAD THE MOST?
"My class times are so short, how can I really make the routine sound good AND look good?"
"There's so much to clean in Tap!"
"I had no CHANCE to really stop focusing waist-down and actually look up at their arms and faces!"
"They don't apply the corrections! If only they'd practice..."
"I can barely get a smile out of them for Tap, but they give it ALL in contemporary and hip-hop!"
******
You get the loop in your head to stop, so that you can go congratulate your sweet Tap students.
As you walk through the crowds, maybe you get a few thank-you's and "they were so cute"s, but the Tap routines are still a literal "footnote", or a background to the other dance styles.
You put aside any discouragement you feel and start looking for songs next year, HOPING that students come back and that somehow, things will be different.
And this is where the MISTAKE lies.
As a Tap Teacher going through this myself over the years, I had to stop repeating the same cycle and expecting a different result.
Even with short class times and all that, I still had to find some better solutions BEFORE THE TAP PROGRAM BECAME EXTINCT!
And once I stepped back and thought about it, I realized that I was overlooking some BIG, GAME-CHANGING IDEAS.
So if you're ready to get off this hamster wheel, that's exactly what I'd love to share with you.

How many Tap classes get onstage and RISE ABOVE what the Tap teacher taught them, asked for, or expected?
Sometimes they surprise you and actually (finally!) do what you asked when they get onstage. But how many Tap classes deliver MORE than what you asked them for?
Your vision is make-or-break.
As the Tap Teacher: How much "WOW" can your students really bring to the stage if your VISION for the entire, "whole package" of the Tap piece, meaning the arms/performance/all the things is
- an afterthought,
- half-baked or
- stale or "been done a LOT"?
I absolutely LOVE helping my fellow Tap Teachers refresh their vision, and get more out of their students.
And in this special workshop,
we're focused on turning our Tap STUDENTS into Tap PERFORMERS.
IT STARTS WITH US. YOU READY?
PERFORMANCE & ARTISTRY IN TAP CHOREOGRAPHY!
Don't figure out the arms later. Let's get a full idea going before you even start to choreograph.
As their Tap Dance Educator, you want their artistry & showmanship to evolve and grow over time, along with their technique. Let's explore what that looks like.
Bring your questions & specific struggles, no matter the age or skill level of students, and we'll talk through and explore solutions that you can use again & again.
I will live stream from the studio. Of course you'll take notes, but I'd love for you to have some space to MOVE too, even if you don't have your Tap shoes on.
Zoom Cameras "ON" teachers! Let's take a chance! It's just us!
INSTRUCTOR'S NOTE
Since 2018, as I’ve been working with Tap Teachers in my Tap Teachers’ Lounge online training program, I’ve largely focused on the TECHNIQUE, from the waist-down. I've helped SO many Tap teachers around the world truly transform their Tap classes, and help their students grow in ways they didn’t think possible. I truly love that work.
But before I started doing that work, I was a Tap Dance PERFORMER. I still have a deep love for performing as a Tap dancer.
as a Rockette, ❤️
with Tony-Award winning choreographers, ⭐️
or as a member of the acclaimed Tap company Dorrance Dance, ⚡️

have given me a unique perspective on how we teach Tap Dance in the studio setting.
And I've realized that very often, the aspect of Tap Dance education where we coach our students on how to EXPRESS THEIR ARTISTRY IN CHOREOGRAPHY gets short-changed, so our students don't have as much fun onstage in their Tap shoes as they do in other styles.
Me? I’ve always loved “bringing Tap choreography to life”, making it my own, and finding creative ways to fulfill the vision of the choreographer.
Now as a Tap Dance Educator, I love bringing out my students' “inner performer”, even when they’re reluctant.
So with this workshop, I want to invite ALL Tap Teachers into my world, so you can see how I approach building a vision for my Tap choreography, and how I direct and coach Tap students to develop skills as FULL-BODY, WHOLE-HEARTED PERFORMERS.
You don’t need my full training program to do this workshop, because we’re not focused on the technique here. You simply need to be a Tap Teacher who is willing to expand your vision and try out some new ideas in a really fun and supportive virtual workshop.
Let me say it again…
This workshop is for TAP TEACHERS ONLY.

No students. Repeat: NO Students.
No students’ moms. ❤️ (Now that I’m officially a dance mama, I could imagine trying to sign up to give my daughters an edge, so this is kind of a message to myself haha).
This workshop is priced at US $97.
