About the Workshop Presenter

Hi, I'm Karida, and I am a professional dancer, dance educator, artist-in-residence, and coach/trainer for dance educators.

My performing credits include

Radio City Rockettes,

Cirque du Soleil, and

Dorrance Dance.

My experiences as an educator include:

* Pace University Commercial Dance Program (Professor for Tap Dance),

* Broadway Dance Center in NYC (Tap Dance Faculty),

* Tap festivals across North America

* Various dance conventions

* 17+ years of recreational & competitive dance studio teaching

* Guest performer & lecturer in K-8 schools, providing a historical perspective and social context for Tap dance and Body percussion (since 2016).

In 2018 I founded the Tap Teachers' Lounge - an online training program for Tap dance teachers in the dance studio setting.

Most recently, I have started a professional development initiative called "Roots, Rhythm, Race & Dance" which helps dance educators to confidently teach age appropriate lessons around race and dance history to their students.

FAQs

None. I am not registered with any political party. This is not a presentation motivated by partisan politics.

This session is for those who have a sincere desire in their hearts to move towards a more just and unified society.

1) People who are not willing to expand or consider another perspective

2) People who want to engage in partisan political arguments that distract from the humanitarian Issues that transcend party lines

3) Anyone who is unwilling to engage in discussion that respects everyone's human dignity. We can disagree without resorting to disrespect.

4) Anyone who is wants to say inflammatory things to start "arguments for sport", while others are trying to have serious dialogue. #NoTrolls

The presentation will on Zoom, and will last about 30 minutes, plus time for conversation afterward.

This is a short-notice session in response to this week's events, so I thought I'd make this one as accessible as possible!

The minimum age is a suggestion, not a requirement.

While this is a conversation about making the world a more just and safe place for our children, we will address sensitive material in a way that is more suited to a mature audience.

I do believe that high school aged students are capable of handling the content, but 15 is the minimum age I feel comfortable with.

Younger students are encouraged to participate WITH a parent/guardian, who can best determine how to help their children process what's happening.

It's today!

Friday, January 8th at

5:00pm PT / 8:00pm ET (USA)

I'm not sure yet! Still mulling it over.

No recording of the seminars is permitted.
